Well, most sharpening tools work by increasing edge contrast to make the image appear more defined. So chances are that you'll get something pretty weird, with glowing edge halos and other side effects. It wasn t the company that I doubted, but I have heard programs and filters for years tout that their stuff worked, and worked beyond our wildest dreams! So, I went ahead and tried it out (for FREE!) and immediately I saw that it was different, and, AND, that it was better than the way I was presently using. I played for a few more minutes, then decided to go ahead and buy it now, rather than later, that s how much it impressed me. There is a slight learning curve, I d say, but you can start immediately getting very good results. The learning curve is only to know how much you should apply, when applying. If you want to bring ZING! to your shots without having the over-sharpened look, then try this, or, buy it. I am not going through my older shots to see how well this works better than my old way of going about sharpening, and I m having fun amazing myself how well this does work. Does what it should. I probably do not come near to fully utilizing this program, but what I do use it for it does well. I shoot a lot of people at a renaissance faire, many of them ladies that feel bad about their complexion or their age lines. I personally think they look fine usually, but do use this program for a wee bit of spot and wrinkle softening, and it is appreciated by those I use it on. And it is subtle so they do not end up looking like they were made of plastic. My main editor is Lightroom 4. I export into Elements when using this and any other Topaz programs as using it in Lightroom screws up the photo taken time for some reason. My work is predominantly in creative photography for the book cover market and recent shifts in industry trends mean that pin sharp images are vital. Detail allows me to do this quickly and easily while still giving me the opportunity to be creative; its far more than just a sharpen. If I had one niggle, it would be that its missing the grid preview function; it would be great if it had this to match the other Topaz plug ins I use. Great product . Topaz makes it so easy to achieve outstanding results without time consuming effort. My two favourite Presets are H.D.R. enhancement 1 which gives images great POP Overall Detail 1. I do a lot of flower photography Overall Detail is amazing. I use a Nikon D5100 APS with Detail my images look like they were shot on full frame format. I find I m using Detail more often than Adjust. I m going to download the free trial for ReMask to give it a try, I m sure I ll end up purchasing it. Being involved with macro photography and specifically shooting a lot of spiders, getting the detail of the subjects sharp but still looking natural, has been an ongoing struggle for me for a few years. Recently I acquired Topaz Detail and suddenly I am getting a crispness out of my photos that has been missing all the time. The software is easy to use out of PS6 and also quite fast. The various setting banks are very effective allowing immediate results from the very first time using the tool. I am still learning how to optimise my workflow using it and also getting my eye trained to see the minute differences created by the various adjustments. The very fine detailed adjustment gives Topaz Detail a lot of creative depth that allows so much artistic flair. So far I am very impressed with Topaz Products.
